Arion Scatter is a 3ds Max modifier that scatters objects on any other object. It uses Arion's instancing system for efficient memory management and render speed.

Instancing

Source: Defines the name of the object to be used for the scattering. The object must be present in the scene and not hidden, as Arion needs this source to be exported to the engine to be able to instance it on render-time. It can be any object as long as it is one single piece of geometry. Groups and hierarchical attachments are not allowed.

Distribution

QRN seed: QRN stands for Quasi Random Number. This option changes the instances random distribution on the growth object's surface.

Count: Defines the number of instances that will be generated on render-time on the growth object's surface. This parameter can be mapped to define more or less dense areas.

Size

Size X (%): Defines the scale factor of the instance on the X axis. This setting is relative to the base object's original size. This setting can be mapped.

Variation (%): Introduces a random variation of the instances scale X within the boundaries of the defined percentage. The variation will happen with the defined Size X as middle-point..

Size Y(%): Defines the scale factor of the instance on the X axis. This setting is relative to the base object's original size. This setting can be mapped.

Rotation

Angle X (°): Defines the rotation of the instanced object around its pivot on the X axis.

Variation (%): Introduces a random variation of the instanced object's rotation on the X axis within the boundaries of the defined percentage. The variation will happen with the defined Size X as middle-point.

Angle Y(°): Defines the rotation of the instanced object around its pivot on the Y axis.

Variation (%): Introduces a random variation of the instanced object's rotation on the X axis within the boundaries of the defined percentage. The variation will happen with the defined Size Y as middle-point.

Angle Z (°): Defines the rotation of the instanced object around its pivot on the Z axis.

Variation (%): Introduces a random variation of the instanced object's rotation on the X axis within the boundaries of the defined percentage. The variation will happen with the defined Size Z as middle-point.


Viewport

Count: Defines the number of instances stand-ins that will be displayed in the viewport. The checkbox enables or disables the display completely. Be reasonable with the amount of preview stand-ins displayed in the viewport as it can quickly slow down the refresh rate.
